The British Horseball Association launches the BHA Youth Development Program 2024.
Following on from the success of last year's Team GBR U16 Development program, the BHA are excited to announce an expanded Youth Development Program. The new scheme will run for the next 12 months initially and, if successful, will continue as an ongoing project.
Who is this for?
Riders aged 13-16 Years riding Ponies 13.2hh-14.2hh:
Last year's focus was on kickstarting the U16 category and finding players for the 2023 Great Britain Under 16 team. The expanded scheme will continue to build on this with a renewed focus on expanding Under 16s Horseball into all regions of the UK, making the sport more widely accessible and increasing the pool of players available to the Team GBR selectors.
Riders aged 16-21 Years riding Horses 14.2hh and above
The big addition to the scheme is the inclusion of initiating development of the Under 21 category. This aspect of the program will aim to create an entry level category for those too old for the Under 16 scheme, to create a bridge for those transitioning up to the adult categories, and to establish an Under 21 Team GBR team to potentially play in the 2024 European Championships and to play in a friendly international tournament in 2025 and further competitive tournaments in the years beyond.
Schedule of Events...
The program will consist of 12 main events scheduled through 2024, one per month in each of the regions highlighted on the below map. Each event will be a have-a-go session focusing on introducing Horseball to as many new U16s and U21s as possible, encouraging them to begin playing Horseball and to continue training and playing with clubs locally and in British Horseball events. By joining British Horseball, you can expect Horseball Competitions, Friendly one day events, Open weekend Championships, Horseball Camps, Demonstrations, International Trips & much more!
